The Major League Baseball trade deadline is approaching quickly and as of yesterday, many believed that the Oakland Athletics would trade with the Boston Red Sox for Jon Lester, the left handed pitcher but the A’s acquired Lester early today.

A report on Twitter from Ken Rosenthal, announced a short while ago, that the A’s have traded Milone to the Minnesota Twins in exchange for outfielder Sam Fuld.

Fuld started the season with the Oakland A’s and will now likely platoon in the outfield. Milone will likely get inserted into the Twins starting pitcher rotation quickly.

On July 21st, Milone was sent down to the minors even though he had a 6-0 record.

Last season he was dropped from the big leagues as well.

The move by the A’s didn’t sit too well with Milone who asked for a trade from the team.

A’s manager addressed the issue.

"“He got ahold of me when all this was coming out, and I’m pretty sure he didn’t expect it to get the play it has,” Melvin said. ‘To an extent, he’s looking out for his big-league career and he’s pitched really well for us. You don’t blame him for wanting to be in the big leagues, it doesn’t mean he doesn’t want to be here – he does want to be here. He’s well thought of by his teammates, well respected by his teammates and he respects the situation going on here. But he wants to be in the big leagues and I don’t blame him for that. … When you’ve had the type of success he’s had and you’re pitching in the minor leagues, that’s not someplace he wants to be.”"

For the A’s, a team in need of help in the infield, the acquisition of Fuld brings a .274 hitter to the club. Fuld has one home run and 12 stolen bases.

The trade was also reported via Twitter by Jon Morosi.
