Many expect the first go-round in the Big Ten to be a bumpy one for the Maryland Terrapins, however few will argue they come in to the league with the best wide receiver group in the conference. That group will be one person short, as junior Nigel King was granted a release from his scholarship on Friday.

The Baltimore Sun is reporting that King is seeking more playing time, and didn’t see that coming with the return of Stefon Diggs and Deon Long.
King issued a statement wishing his coaches and teammates from Maryland well, but felt opportunities were better elsewhere:
“I would like to thank all of my coaches, teammates and the rest of the athletic department staff for their support during my time at the University of Maryland,” King said in a statement. “I was able to fulfill my goals of playing college football and, most importantly, earning my degree.
“After talking with my family, I think it is in my best to pursue a new opportunity. I wish all my teammates and coaches the very best this upcoming season.”
Last season, King had 33 receptions for 450 yards and a team-best four touchdowns, but with Diggs and Long coming back those numbers were likely to take a significant step backwards. Even with his team-leading four touchdowns, King’s 33 receptions were only good for fifth on the Terps, a sign of just how deep the roster is at that position.
The good news for King, and any potential suitors, is that he did graduate this spring and will be eligible to play immediately at whatever school he transfers to.
