Tough crowd, am I right Andre?

More from New York Giants

New York Giants’ rookie running back Andre Williams put his might as a runner on display for the nation to see as part of the Hall of Fame game on Sunday night as the NFL’s preseason officially got underway. With 48 yards and a touchdown on just seven carries, Williams served notice that he is ready to meet the hype with the ball in his hands.

Even with that being the case, however, Williams has work to do to earn more playing time in New York. As has been an issue previously for Williams, he still has to prove he can handle the rigors of an NFL passing game.

Jordan Raanan of NJ.com writes the following about where the rookie back stands with the Giants’ passing offense:

"There is little doubt that Andre Williams can do some damage with the ball in his hands…Still, his ultimate fate for this season and beyond will be decided by his ability to block and catch the ball out of the backfield. That will determine how often he gets on the field. Williams wasn’t asked to do much of either against the Bills."

It makes sense that the Giants did not ask much of Williams in that regard as he got his feet wet in his first NFL action, even if it was in the context of arguably worthless preseason action.

Many interested eyes will be on the Boston College product in passing situations as the preseason wears on and the Giants’ depth chart takes shape.
