Browns release first depth chart, Johnny Manziel is QB2
By Dan Zinski
The Browns released their first official depth chart of training camp, and there’s good news for Johnny Manziel. He’s ahead of Tyler Thigpen and Connor Shaw!

Manziel started camp as the #3 QB, you recall, so this is a great victory for him. With the first preseason game looming, Johnny Football has leapfrogged Tyler Thigpen into the #2 QB spot behind Brian Hoyer.
Only one more person to knock off, Johnny Football, and you will be the starting quarterback in Cleveland. Keep the faith, young man. Your time is coming.
Also notable: Josh Gordon is listed as a #1 wide receiver. Gordon sits and waits for the results of his appeal, and all of Cleveland sits and waits with him.
But nobody sits and waits with more nervousness than Mike Pettine. He knows how fast the Browns turn over coaches. He knows, without Josh Gordon, wins might be hard to come by. He might be out of a job come week 8 the way that team operates.
For those who were wondering about the cornerback competition in Cleveland, rookie Justin Gilbert is still listed behind Buster Skrine. You’ve got to earn it if you’re a rookie under Mike Pettine. He doesn’t just hand out starting jobs like candy at Halloween.
