While most of the current free agent crop has dried up, both Greg Monroe and Eric Bledsoe sit in restricted free agency without a contract. Teams looking to make moves have inquired about sign-and-trade scenarios for both players though neither the Detroit Pistons nor Phoenix Suns have shown interest in such.

What if the Boston Celtics were to offer up Rajon Rondo though? There’s already been speculation about the Celtics having interest in a Greg Monroe for Rajon Rondo deal but would the Phoenix Suns have interest in a swap of Eric Bledsoe for Rondo?

It doesn’t appear that way as Chuck Myron of Hoops Rumors feels the Suns are content with how things are shaking out.

Asked by a fan in his weekly chat if the Suns and Celtics could make a deal, Myron gave the following response.

"Nah, I don’t see that. I don’t think Bledsoe is on Phoenix’s bad side, by the way. I think Phoenix is getting on Bledsoe’s nerves, but not the other way around. I’d be surprised if Bledsoe didn’t end up back with the Suns."

So why wouldn’t the Suns make such a deal? Well, although Eric Bledsoe can play point guard he can also double-down as a shooting guard and will likely play there this season (assuming he returns to the Suns). Between Isaiah Thomas and Goran Dragic, the point guard position is essentially locked up. Rajon Rondo, talented as he is, isn’t much of a shooting guard and needs the ball in his hands to be effective.

There’s also the contract situation considering Rajon Rondo will be a free agent after the end of this season and it’s questionable if he’d be willing to re-sign in the Valley of the Sun. So while some may question as to why the Suns wouldn’t make such a trade, it seems to benefit them not to make a move unless Bledsoe demanded to be moved.
