Jauntavius Johnson (Lincoln, Al. Lincoln Sch) committed to the Auburn Tigers on Wednesday at an afternoon announcement at his high school giving the defending SEC champions their 19th commitment for the 2015 class.

The commitment from the 6-2, 330-pound defensive tackle is significant, because Johnson is the first defensive lineman to commit to Gus Malzahn and Auburn for this year’s class.

Johnson ranks as the nation’s No. 474 player overall regardless of position, No. 31 defensive tackle and the No. 16 player in the state of Alabama, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Auburn now has commitments from four of the top 10 recruits in the state.

Holding offers from Alabama, Mississippi State and Louisville, Johnson was long considered to be an Auburn lean dating back to last year when he was a frequent visitor to The Plains.

Johnson visited Auburn six times since last June and his most recent visit was for Big Cat Weekend in May when he referred to Auburn as “home” so the writing was on the wall that when Johnson was ready and comfortable enough in his decision to shut down his recruitment that he would be suiting up for the Tigers.

With today’s addition of Johnson to the class, Auburn now owns the nation’s No. 7 class overall and the No. 4 class in the SEC, trailing Alabama, Texas A&M and South Carolina, according to the 247Sports team rankings.

Auburn has one five-star recruit, running back Jovon Robinson, the No. 1 junior college prospect, 10 four-star recruits and eight three-star recruits.
