The Dallas Mavericks didn’t want to lose Shawn Marion this offseason, though the forward decided it was time to move on after they filled his role with a much younger Chandler Parsons.

Not wanting to play a backup role, Marion began looking for a better situation in free agency though probably noticed rather quickly that his skill set, age and contractual demands didn’t have teams knocking down the door. Still, there are teams intrigued with ‘The Matrix’ which include the Indiana Pacers and Cleveland Cavaliers.
Many thought the Cavaliers would be a prime destination for Marion considering teams like to fill out their LeBron James lead-roster with veteran talents. However, when Indiana Pacers forward Paul George went down with injury, it appeared as if a perfect spot for Shawn Marion opened up. Not only would he be able to play for more than the minimum contract, he would also stand to recieve a significant amount of playing time.
Despite that, the Cleveland Cavaliers are still in play for Marion’s services, so says Sam Amico.
Quick FYI: Free agent Shawn Marion intrigued with Cavs. Quite possible he'll get better offer elsewhere, but definitely in play in CLE.

Without Paul George, it’s doubtful the Indiana Pacers will be the elite team that they were so while Marion might be playing for a playoff spot with Indiana, he likely won’t be playing for a ring. The same can’t be said in Cleveland though where Marion’s addition would make an already stacked Cavaliers team even deeper.
In the end it seemingly comes down to money and playing time versus the chance to win another NBA title. What does Shawn Marion want more?
