I realize that I have been focusing on deep leagues a lot lately, and kind of skipping over the standard leagues. To be honest, I really only play in two standard leagues anymore, and that is because I have been in them for a decade. I usually do deeper leagues. Deeper leagues do take more work, and a quicker trigger finger, so I find myself focusing on them more. Sometimes my standard league teams suffer for it. So since I am analyzing my standard team rosters, I figure it is a good time to do the add/drops for you standard league players out there.

Drop/Trade:
Chris Davis, Orioles: His massive disappointment of a season carries on with no end in sight. He does have 19 homers now, but his .198 average leaves much to be desired. It’s the second coming of Adam Dunn! In standard leagues, there are enough other options that you don’t have to deal with guys who will torpedo your average like Davis is.
Casey McGehee, Marlins: Mr. RBI has gone cold since the All Star break. McGehee has just six RBI since the break, and none since July 27th. He is also hitting just .125 in August. Since he doesn’t hit for power, he has definitely outlived his usefullness in standard leagues.
Brandon Moss, Athletics: Moss had an outstanding first half, earning his first All Star nod, but since then he has a .156 average with two home runs. He is a platoon waiting to happen, and you don’t need that headache in standard leagues.
Replace with:
Billy Butler, Royals: Country Breakfast is served again. It just took a while to get it prepared. Butler is on fire since the break. He has four homers and ten RBI since July 25th, and owns a .360 average since then. Pick him up while you still can.
Tommy Medica, Padres: He is mashing in August. Medica is hitting .455 with three homers and 10 RBI this month. Bud Black has him playing in the outfield some now, so as long as he keeps hitting, he will remain in the lineup on most days.
James Loney, Rays: He is a more consistent version of Casey McGehee. He always drives in runs and keeps a good average, he just doesn’t have much for power. If you’re dropping McGehee, Loney is the perfect replacement.
Come back tomorrow for the second basemen!
