The New York Yankees are just one of many teams who are interested in Cuban prospect Rusney Castillo, though they’re one of the few with deep enough pockets to make it a reality.

An influx of Cuban talent has taken Major League Baseball by storm during the past few seasons and every team now sees another potential Yasiel Puig or Jose Abreu opportunity. Will Rusney Castillo be on the same level? That’s difficult to say, though he certainly has front offices across the league salivating at the mere mention of his name.
Nearly every team had some type of representation at an open workout recently though the New York Yankees are apparently enamored with Rusney Castillo and are ready to begin negotiating a contract.
"The Yankees held a private workout for Rusney Castillo on Friday at the minor league complex in Tampa and are interested in talking dollars with the free agent Cuban defector, who will have plenty of choices."
Rusney Castillo can play either second base or in the outfield and it’s believed that most teams interested in signing him want to place him in center. However, the New York Yankees appear more interested in putting him at second base. Might there be a reason for that? It’s possible.
Obviously the Yankees are in need of help at second base, but maybe the Bronx Bombers are hoping that Castillo prefers to play in the infield and are hoping to sell him on the idea? Either way they appear ready to bring him to New York, though they’ll certainly have competition for his services.
