The Detroit Pistons have made no qualms about their desire to retain Greg Monroe. Not only have they stated a desire to retain him publicly, they’ve also given him more than one contract offer.

More from Detroit Pistons

Despite that, Greg Monroe hasn’t signed on the dotted line and he doesn’t appear overly eager to do so. Why exactly the two sides are finding difficulty is unknown, though some have speculated that Monroe’s desire to have an opt-out clause could be roadblock.

Regardless, the Pistons brass continues to praise Greg Monroe and owner Tom Gores had nothing but positive things to say about his big man, stating how badly he wants him to return to the Pistons. Still, he knows pressuring the former Georgetown product isn’t going to get the job done so he and the team are prepared to wait on Monroe.

“We’d like Greg to get on board, but he’s got time to think about it and we should give him that time.”

He went on to applaud Monroe’s effort in Motown.

“With Greg we just believe in him. I’d like Greg to really get excited about being in Detroit because he deserves it. He’s really been good to the city. You’ve seen him. He’s good to the city. Stan is going to have to figure out exactly everybody’s role, but we’re believers in Greg Monroe. He’s not just a great player; he also has a good basketball character. I know it’s been a lot of the off-season stuff, but I’m a believer in Greg Monroe.”

Monroe has until October 1st to decide if he wants to accept any of the Pistons contract offers or their one-year qualifying offer which would make him an unrestricted free agent next offseason.
