A rumor is burning up the internet that says the Cleveland Browns are about to trade quarterback Brian Hoyer to the Houston Texans in exchange for disgruntled receiver Andre Johnson.

More from Cleveland Browns

This rumor is in the very early stages and is possibly just a load of internet nonsense. Nevertheless, Browns coach Mike Pettine felt compelled to say something about the rumor.

Not shockingly, Pettine shot the rumor down faster than Clive Owen whipping out the cocaine needle after a hard day’s work operating on leaky bowels at The Knick.

Now I know what you sceptics are saying. “Well naturally he’s not going to admit to it before the trade is worked out DURRDUHDURR.”

If you want to go down that conspiracy theory road, sure, believe that Pettine is lying just to throw people off the scent.

I happen to believe Pettine in this instance. The Browns aren’t going to deal Brian Hoyer just because they have Johnny Manziel waiting in the wings. And don’t give me any Rex Grossman insurance stuff. It’s just a coincidence that they happened to sign Grossman yesterday.

People on Twitter are reading the tea leaves, that’s all this is. Trust me, Brian Hoyer isn’t going anywhere.
