It was appearing that Johnny Manziel had closed the distance on Brian Hoyer in the Cleveland Browns starting quarterback competition after the preseason opener, but that may not be the case any more following a report of Manziel missing a team meeting.

According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, Manziel was late for a scheduled team meeting on Monday.
However, before criticizing Manziel too much, Mortensen seems to believe that Manziel and a few other Browns rookies simply misread the schedule.
Manziel is believed to have been fined for the late appearance, according to Rotoworld.
When you are competing for a starting job, you want to be the first one in the building and the last one out. Unfortunately for Manziel, that mishap could be the latest incident that causes the Browns coaching staff and the media to wonder just how seriously he is taking the job and whether or not he is ready to lead and become the face of a franchise.
We will find out after Monday Night Football whether or not the Browns believe Manziel or Hoyer will be the right man for the job, but if the two players are neck-and-neck when the coaching staff makes their decision, you have to believe Manziel may wish he would have been a few minutes earlier to start the week.
