Milwaukee Bucks’ Jabari Parker trying to avoid bust label
By Bryan Rose
While drafting a player (in any sport) with the first overall pick is never a sure thing, more often than not the player turns out to be very sevicable at minimum. You may not always nab yourself a franchise alterning talent, but you will likely end up with a potential All-Star.

The same can’t always be said for the second player drafted.
Many times you’ll find conflicted front offices deciding who to pick between the two players and often times, the player who is drafted second doesn’t live up to his expectations. You don’t have to look very far to see examples, especially in the NBA.
Given that, Jabari Parker, who was selected second overall by the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2014 NBA Draft is doing what he can to avoid becoming labeled as a bust.
“There’s been a lot of second pick busts,” Jabari Parker said Saturday morning. “I’m just trying not to be that bust. Everyday that I step on the court, I just remind myself that I have a long ways to go. If I want to be one of those guys in the first tier of the NBA, like a LeBron, like a Kobe, like a [Blake Griffin], then I have to have that mentality starting off from the ground, and work my way up.”
The list of boom or bust picks from the second selection spot reads like a roster of disappointment. From Micheal Beasley to Evan Turner to Darko Milicic, many teams have went from thinking they may have found themselves a future fixture of their franchise to a player they can’t rid themselves of quickly enough.
Thankfully if fellow rookies are any indication, the Milwaukee Bucks and Jabari Parker should have no worries as he was named the overwhelming favorite to bring home the 2014 NBA Rookie of the Year award.
