Minnesota Timberwolves will ‘probably’ max out Ricky Rubio
By Josh Hill
The Minnesota Timberwolves decided to not max out Kevin Love a few years ago when his production wasn’t all that high and there seemed to be more upside with Ricky Rubio.

Oh how things have changed, as Rubio is struggling to be a star and Kevin Love already is one — and wants out of Minnesota really bad. Love is getting his wish but the question has now become will Rubio get his in a max contract from the Timberwolves this season.
According to Jabari Davis of Basketball Insiders, the Timberwolves will probably end up giving Ricky Rubio a max contract, as the topic came up when discussing a possible trade that could land the Wolves Josh Smith from the Detroit Pistons.
"They’re currently paying Pek about $12 per and will probably end up maxing Rubio out, but they are actually slightly over the cap already so it would require them putting together a package of players that Detroit would want in return."
The real reason the Wolves will likely max out Rubio is because they literally have no one else to give the max too and Rubio is the closest thing to a decent player Minnesota has. Andrew Wiggins is on a rookie contract and Thaddeus Young isn’t worth a max deal.
Some would argue Rubio isn’t either, but that’s what was said about Kevin Love when the Wolves stiffed him, and look how that turned out.
