The Atlanta Falcons bombed out last season when they were predicted to go to the Super Bowl, but their bad season resulted in the No. 6 overall pick in the draft and Texas A&M left tackle stud Jake Matthews.

More from Atlanta Falcons

Matthews and bad luck met in a big way on Saturday night when starting left tackle Sam Baker went down with a leg injury that will likely mean Matthews accelerates his plans to be featured on the offensive line.

According to Ian Rapoport from NFL Network, it appears that Baker’s season is over before it can even start as the left tackle suffered a torn patella tendon and is likely to be out for the season.

Additionally, Rapoport states this puts pressure on rookie Jake Matthews to step up in a big way during his first season as a pro.

Thanks to HBO documenting the Falcons training camp on Hard Knocks, we will likely hear and see more about this injury on the show, but for now the reality is that Baker’s season is probably over and that means the Falcons will need even bigger things from their rookie out of Texas A&M.
