Manziel is fighting for the team’s starting quarterback position, but he played an awful game. Luckily for Manziel, Brian Hoyer wasn’t much better, so we could see the quarterback competition draw out through Week 3.
As for Manziel, his performance on the field wasn’t his only bad moment.
After throwing an incompletion, Manziel looked over to the Redskins bench and tossed up a middle finger.
That lack of maturity and focus is something that did not sit well with head coach Mike Pettine.
“It does not sit well. . . . It’s disappointing, because what we talk about is being poised and being focused,” Pettine said after the game, via Pro Football Talk.
“You have to be able to maintain your poise. That’s a big part of all football players, especially the quarterback, that we have to keep our composure, so that’s something that we’ll obviously address with him.”
If Pettine wants to stick to his timeline of picking a starting quarterback before Week 3 of the preseason, Manziel’s missed meeting and immaturity on the field could be enough to put him in the No. 2 spot on the depth chart despite both quarterbacks competing performing poorly on the field.
