Earlier this offseason the Houston Rockets were said to have interest in signing free agent forward Dante Cunningham. A talented player, Cunningham was drawing interest from multiple teams though legal issues scared most suitors away.

However, thanks to a lack of depth after gutting the vast majority of their roster, the Houston Rockets were still said to be intrigued with the idea of signing Dante Cunningham. Despite that, it doesn’t appear likely that Cunningham will join the Houston Rockets according to Hoops Rumors.

"But, like Minnesota, Houston has limited flexibility to bring aboard Cunningham, currently rostering 13 players on fully guaranteed deals and four guys on non-guaranteed pacts. They could waive someone to make room for Cunningham, but they’re already set to open camp with Terrence Jones, Donatas Motiejunas, Josh Powell, Jeff Adrien, Robert Covington, Joey Dorsey and Clint Capela all under contract, each of whom, like Cunningham, mans the four."

The one thing that Dante Cunningham has going for him is his potential. There is certainly a team out there who would be open to taking a chance on the young power forward given his ceiling, it’s just a matter of who. He may  need to take a non-guaranteed contract simply to prove himself, but there’s no doubt he can play when he’s motivated.

Of course, if the Houston Rockets have an injury and Dante Cunningham remains in the free agent market it’s possible the two sides may find a common ground but for now it appears such a marriage will not be taking place.
