The defensive ability of Cleveland Cavaliers forward Shawn Marion has never been put into question. Routinely thought of as a premier defender, Shawn Marion built his game around an ability to guard opposing All-Star talent.

However, Shawn Marion isn’t the same spry and absurdly athletic player that he was during his days with the Phoenix Suns where he earned ‘The Matrix’ nickname. Given that, there has been concern that the most recent Cleveland Cavaliers addition may have trouble guarding elite NBA talent.

Sam Amico of Fox Sports says not to worry about that however as when asked by a fan in his weekly chat if Marion can still handle the defensive end against All-Star talent, the answer was a resounding yes.

"Yes, without question. He remains an excellent position defender who can guard multiple positions and even help protect the rim. I have always been a huge fan of his game, especially in his later years."

Shawn Marion is coming off a very solid campaign with the Dallas Mavericks and while he may not be able to play heavy, extended minutes like when he was younger, he can still provide impactful stretches of defense.

He’ll also have the security of knowing LeBron James will also be on the wing to help him more often than not (considering James isn’t going to see much time on the bench) and Marion won’t always be called upon to defend the oppositions best player.

Seems to be a win/win scenario for both the Cavaliers and Marion.
