It hasn’t been a great preseason for the Buffalo Bills.

More from Buffalo Bills

After giving up their 2015 first round pick to move up and draft former Clemson Tigers’ wide receiver Sammy Watkins, he was injured and has not been playing in the preseason. Second-year quarterback E.J. Manuel, who struggled and was injured as a rookie, has not performed well and had another poor outing on Saturday afternoon. In a 27-14 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Manuel went 19-of-28 for 198 yards with a touchdown and an interception. The Bills were shut out in the first half.

There was one surprising scratch for the Bills on Saturday – defensive lineman Alan Branch. Last year, Branch signed a multi-year extension with the Bills and figured to be a staple of their defense.

According to Tim Graham of The Buffalo News, Branch was benched because he arrested.

With cuts coming up this week, teams will soon have to trim their rosters to 53 players. This incident could be what gets Branch released.
