Coming their way will be All-Star power forward Kevin Love, who is set to team up with LeBron James and should make the Cleveland Cavaliers among the favorites in the NBA’s Eastern Conference. In the coming weeks Love will be inundated with interviews and endorsements, but what number will he be wearing when he makes his Cavs debut?
The obvious choice will be No. 42, considering he’s worn the digit since he was drafted into the league back in 2008. However, with a change of team apparently comes a change in number as Kevin Love will wear number 0 on his Cleveland Cavaliers jersey moving forward.
So why the change? Kevin Love hasn’t announced it yet, though he would have seemingly been free to continue wearing his former number considering no member of the Cleveland Cavaliers has taken it. The most likely explanation is that he simply wants a change and didn’t want to wear his former number on his new team.
For what it’s worth, Love wore No. 42 in college while attending UCLA as well though former Bruins teammate and good friend Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder has worn 0 during both his collegiate and professional career. Maybe Love’s paying homage to his friend?
Andrew Wiggins, who Love was traded for, will wear No. 22 (going back to his college number) for the Minnesota Timberwolves.
