The biggest question facing the Arizona Wildcats and head coach Rich Rodriguez this season was not who replaces All-American running back Ka’Deem Carey, but who starts at quarterback this season.
On Monday, Rodriguez finally revealed who will be under center for the team’s regular season opener against UNLV on Friday at his weekly press conference.

The redshirt freshman beat out Jesse Scroggins, Jerrard Randall and Connor Brewer for the job, but that doesn’t mean that Soloman will play the entire game or even start the next game depending on what happens against the Runnin’ Rebels.

Solomon received the most reps with the starters this fall, but Scroggins was the best quarterback during the spring before an automobile accident sidelined him for much of the offseason. He fits the system well and showed good timing operating the Rodriguez version of the spread offense better than his competitors.

B.J. Denker was the starter last year and threw for 2,516 yards and 16 touchdowns and ran for an additional 13 scores and 949 yards in his lone season as the starter.
Solomon was a three-star recruit out of Bishop Gorman high school in Las Vegas when he was the No. 21 dual-threat quarterback and No. 1 recruit in the state of Nevada, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
