When the Sacramento Kings decided to sign Darren Collison this offseason, many believed that Isaiah Thomas’ time in the California capital was coming to a close.

A handful of teams were said to have interest in the 5’9 point guard, but it was the Phoenix Suns who seemingly crept in under the radar and signed the former Washington Huskies talent, shocking much of the NBA community. It wasn’t that signing Thomas was a bad deal, but rather with Goran Dragic and presumably Eric Bledsoe on the roster, the fit was questionable.
Of course, at this point it’s difficult to know if Eric Bledsoe will return to the Suns, but regardless Isaiah Thomas is going to play a lot of minutes this season according to Thomas himself.
“When we first met they said, ‘we value you as a starter and whatever happens with the Bledsoe situation is going to happen. If he comes back and you do come off the bench, you’re still going to have a big role and play a lot of minutes'”, stated the point guard.
The Phoenix Suns didn’t sign Isaiah Thomas to be a rotational player so even if he does end up coming off the bench, he’s going to play over 30-minutes per night. Granted, the Suns are going to have an extremely small backcourt with Dragic, Bledsoe (assuming he returns) and Thomas which will probably hurt them on the defensive end. However, offensively the Phoenix Suns are very well equipped and their scoring ability and quickness should be problematic for the opposition.
