The Buffalo Bills made a move at quarterback on Friday night and it’s one that likely led to the quarterback move they made on Saturday afternoon. After signing Kyle Orton to a one year deal with a player option for a second, the Buffalo Bills have cut backup quarterback Jeff Tuel as part of the final roster purge of the offseason.

It’s not that surprising given that Tuel wasn’t completely impressive in the preseason and the Bills can clearly use Orton in more ways than one. Tuel is still learning the ropes of being an NFL quarterback — and a career backup, at that — which means that Orton’s starting experience over the years is far more valuable to the Bills and E.J. Manuel than anything Tuel can provide.
Tuel will likely find a place on the practice squad for now or as a third stringer on a team willing to carry three quarterbacks into the season. The most likely scenario for Tuel is that he’s going to get picked up during the season at some point when injuries start depleting rosters.
For now though, Orton has stolen his job without taking a single preseason snap this summer.
