Few expected the New York Jets to cut wide receiver Stephen Hill this past weekend, though, even fewer can begrudge them for doing so.

More from Carolina Panthers

Gifted with impressive size and physical skills, there’s little reason that Stephen Hill has struggled to come into his own but for whatever reason, mental issues have held the former second-round pick back. That resulted in the Jets cutting ties with the receiver who cleared waivers and eventually signed with the Carolina Panthers on Tuesday.

It could end up being a solid addition for the Panthers given Hill’s ability, though, he’ll need to mature both on and off the field judging by recent comments.

Hill and his agent blasted the Jets after his release, suggesting it was poor quarterback play that resulted in his two sub-par seasons in the Big Apple. That wasn’t the only swipe taken however as today Stephen Hill stated his dropped passes were ‘overblown’ by the New York media.

As if that wasn’t enough, Hill went on to say the media wanted him off the Jets, though really didn’t give much of a reason as to why.

If there’s any positive news for the wide receiver it’s that he’ll now get to play in Carolina where the media won’t be nearly as hard on him, though it seems difficult to suggest his dropped passes were ‘overblown’ by the New York media considering his inability to hang onto the ball.
