The Buffalo Bills open up their regular season this weekend when they travel to Chicago to take on a very dangerous Bears team led by quarterback Jay Cutler and wide receivers Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffrey.

More from Buffalo Bills

The Bills are hoping they have an exciting quarterback to wide receiver tandem as well this Sunday with rookie first round pick Sammy Watkins and second year starting quarterback EJ Manuel.

Watkins, the former Clemson University star, was selected by the Bills No. 4 overall in this past May’s NFL draft. The pick was a high risk/high reward type deal considering the Bills gave away a number of picks in order to snag the explosive wide receiver.

During the time Watkins has been playing, whether in practice or on the field, it has been evident that he is a game changer for the Bills organization. The issue is that Watkins has been having trouble staying on the field, as he injured his ribs twice during the preseason.

Watkins returned to practice earlier this week after a lengthy layoff, and once again went through all of practice today without any hiccups. Head coach Doug Marrone stated that we will have to “wait and see for the game” whether or not Watkins will actually play, but in all likelihood Watkins should be making his NFL debut in Chicago on Sunday.

At this point, Watkins needs to prove to the Bills that he can stay healthy over the long NFL season while making plays and helping the team win games. If not, it won’t be long before Watkins is on the outside looking in.
