Tonight, the NFL season gets underway for real with the Seahawks and Packers kicking things off in Seattle on Thursday Night Football.  The start of the season means it’s time to focus on getting your fantasy lineup locked in and ready to roll for week 1.

For the most part, week one is not the time to get cute with your lineup. If you drafted someone as a starter, the best plan is to give them at least a week before playing matchup games and rotating people in and out. It’s important not to over-adjust based on matchup, but it can be helpful if you’re trying to choose between two options who are close in ranking.

That being the case, each Thursday here on Fansided you can find a player at each position that I think is a good start who would normally be on your bench and a player in a tough matchup that you should consider benching if you have a solid alternative.

Week 1 matchups are hard always to read, so make your lineup decisions cautiously and stick with your stars for the most part.  Since that’s the best plan for the first week of the season, this post focuses on a few fringe starters that I think you may want to pass over and others to plug in if you have a chance.

I also have picked a flier at each position who could have a big week despite being fairly lowly ranked and regarded.  Fliers aren’t meant to be used except in case of emergency, but they should be monitored for future consideration or make decent last-minute hail mary’s if your desparate (which you shouldn’t be in week one).
