Ellington was somewhat of an injury concern in the past though the Arizona Cardinals were hoping to keep him healthy despite the fact that they were potentially willing to give him 300 touches this season.
That’s obviously unlikely at this point, especially given the injury. However, there is good news to report as it appears Andre Ellington will not need surgery, at least not currently.
Re: Ellington consulted with three foot/ankle specialists all agreed no surgery at this time. RT @52southway: Anymore word on Ellington?

Keep in mind he’s not fully out of the woods as it’s possible surgery could be an option down the road, though it appears as if rest will be his best option at this point. For what it’s worth, there is a suggestion hinting that Ellington could play on Monday night against the San Diego Chargers though that seems like a best-case scenario.
Arians said Ellington did enough today that he could play Monday, but it will be game day decision. #SDvsAZ

It seems very unlikely that the Arizona Cardinals would put their featured back in any type of position to further hurt himself, so Andre Ellington would need to prove he’s completely healthy before he’s given a go.
For now though it looks like disaster has potentially been avoided.
