If the performance of Eli Manning during the New York Giants’ preseason is any indication, the team will need to rely heavily on the running game this year.

That may not be the news many are wanting to hear but thankfully the Giants have Rashad Jennings in the backfield who is setting himself up to be the ‘bell cow’ according to ESPN Giants reporter Dan Graziano.
Responding to a fan question, Graziano talked about the New York Giants’ running game and suggested that Jennings will open the season as Tom Coughlin’s featured back.
"I expect the Giants’ run game to lean heavily on Rashad Jennings in the early going, with rookie Andre Williams serving as the primary backup while Williams gets up to speed.…But as far as the workload, I think Jennings is the bell cow to start and Williams has to play his way into more carries."
How long Jennings will remain in that role is likely dependent on the performance of he and Andre Williams. One thing Graziano wasn’t sure of is how the New York Giants will decide upon carries when near goal line. Jennings, who most recently played for the Oakland Raiders has proven he’s more than capable of handling such a role though given he’s likely to be on the field a significant amount, it’s possible Williams could vulture a few attempts.
That said, the backfield is going to be Rashad Jennings’ to lose.
Williams still has shown some issues with catching the ball in addition to blitz protection which should give Jennings every opportunity to run away with the job.
