While Jamaal Charles gets all the hype and praise, this Chiefs defense, led by Johnson, is the backbone of this team. In 2013, Johnson, collected 95 tackles–a team high–4.5 sacks and 2 interceptions, ultimately leading to a Pro Bowl selection, the third consecutive appearance dating back to the 2011 season.
To make matters worse, the loss of Johnson makes the Chiefs thin in the middle as they’re now without sixth year linebacker Joe Mays, formerly of the Houston Texans and Denver Broncos.

With the injury being an achilles tear, there is a possibility Johnson could return some time this season, depending on which medical procedure he chooses to take.
Regardless, Johnson’s presence will be missed. In the coming weeks, the Chiefs will take on Denver, Miami, New England, San Francisco, and San Diego. If they’re unable to keep those teams from setting the tone offensively and dominating the time of possession, the Chiefs could kick off their 2014 season on a losing note.
