Although the idea of tampering charges being placed upon Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones seemed a little outlandish, technically it was still a possibility thanks to a phone conversation between he and Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson which occurred during the offseason.

More from Dallas Cowboys

That alleged phone call sparked conversation suggesting that Peterson wanted to play for the Dallas Cowboys before his career came to an end, leading to speculation that there may have been some questionable talks going on. However, proving such would be difficult and both sides have suggested nothing sinister went on.

Apparently the NFL and the Minnesota Vikings agree as tampering charges against Jerry Jones and his Dallas Cowboys will not be filed according to ESPN.

"The Cowboys are not facing tampering charges based upon Adrian Peterson’s phone conversation with Dallas owner/general manager Jerry Jones — an incident reported in a profile on Jones by ESPN’s Don Van Natta — according to league sources."

While having such a conversation probably wasn’t the smartest thing Jerry Jones has ever done, proving there was more to it than friendly banter would be very difficult. The fact that tampering was ever brought up in the first place was likely the ‘slap on the wrist’ punishment the NFL wanted to give out, essentially just a warning to think before you act next time.

Jerry Jones allegedly also asked Dallas Cowboys general manager Jason Cohen to speak to the Minnesota Vikings as well in effort to give a third-party account of what took place during the phone conversation between Jones and Adrian Peterson.
