It sounds crazy to say but in just a matter of days, Derek Jeter will play his last professional baseball game.

With the New York Yankees set to end the season against the Boston Red Sox, the franchise wanted to honor their captain before they conclude their season on the road and that’s exactly what they did on Sunday afternoon.
Deemed ‘Derek Jeter Day’, the longtime New York Yankees shortstop was honored by the organization along with current and former teammates. In addition, Jeter was given an extremely long standing ovation from the New York Yankees crowd as they chanted his name so loudly it could likely be heard up and down the Eastern Seaboard.
After the festivities the team and Jeter returned to the dugout where they collected their belongings and took the field. Except, nobody else followed Derek Jeter once he left the dugout.
Although Jeter knew that he would lead the team onto the field, his teammates decided to stop after he began running out to his position at shortstop allowing the crowd to yet again show their appreciation for the eventual Hall of Fame talent.
Jeter was left on the diamond by himself for a couple minutes before his teammates scurried out of the dugout and took up their positions, leaving the shortstop understandably emotional.
It’s not exactly a new move as we’ve seen it happen before, but that doesn’t make it any less cool nor does it take away from the importance and historic nature of what took place today in the Bronx.
