Outrage is freely pouring out after video of Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice hitting his then-fiancee was released by TMZ. U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) is amongst those outraged, and has been outraged since the beginning.

More from Baltimore Ravens

After the video’s release, Blumenthal has called on the NFL to revisit the two-game suspension and find a stiffer penalty.

“The video released today emphasizes how egregiously weak and wrong the initial penalty against Ray Rice was – as the Commissioner has acknowledged – and it constitutes new, powerful evidence that requires the Commissioner to reconsider and reach a stronger punishment,” Blumenthal said in a statement on his website. “The NFL took a positive step forward with its new policy on domestic violence, but in the wake of this new video, allowing Ray Rice to take the field after only a two-game suspension would be a disappointing step backwards.”

Blumenthal has supporters aplenty, including current and former NFL players who would like to see Rice banned.

The Ravens shouldn’t be spared in this either. They continue to employ Rice and they trotted out the victim to the media and had her accept responsibility for her roll in the issue, which was essentially none, and without a doubt nothing that deserved that response from Rice.
