The Detroit Lions and New York Giants finally got their seasons underway on Monday night.

More from Detroit Lions

The Lions took control early on two first quarter touchdown passes from Matt Stafford to Calvin Johnson. The Giants cut the lead to 14-7 on a touchdown from Eli Manning to Larry Donnell to make it 14-7, which was the score at the half.

The Lions dominated the third quarter, getting two field goals from Nate Freese and a five-yard touchdown run from Stafford. The Giants again tried to get back in the game – they drove 80 yards in 14 plays and got a one-yard touchdown run by Rashad Jennings to cut the lead to 27-14.

The Lions then answered with a 12-play, 80-yard drive. Running back Joique Bell scored from three yards out and then headed to the stands to celebrate with the Lions’ fans.
