Milwaukee Brewers get All-Star CF Carlos Gomez back from wrist injury
By Phil Watson
The Milwaukee Brewers got their leadoff hitter back on Monday when All-Star center fielder Carlos Gomez was penciled into the starting lineup for the first time since spraining his left wrist on Aug. 31.
According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Gomez is in center field and will bat in the No. 1 spot as the reeling Brewers—who have lost 11 of their last 12 and have dropped from first to third place in the National League Central and out of an NL playoff position—host the Miami Marlins at Miller Park.

Gomez was an All-Star for the second straight season this year, voted in as a starter for the first time. He is hitting .283./.349/.480 in 130 games, with a career-best 85 runs, 29 doubles (another career high), 21 homers, 66 RBI and 29 stolen bases.
He made a pinch-running appearance on Thursday, played as a defensive replacement on Friday and got his first at-bat on Sunday since injuring his wrist on a swing at San Francisco on Aug. 31, driving in Milwaukee’s only run in a 9-1 loss to St. Louis that dropped them to third place in the NL Central and behind the Pittsburgh Pirates in the NL wild-card race.
Gomez was signed as an international free agent by the New York Mets in 2002 from the Dominican Republic. He was traded to the Minnesota Twins in February 2008 as part of the deal that sent Cy Young winner Johan Santana to the Mets.
The Brewers acquired Gomez in November 2009 in a trade for shortstop J.J. Hardy.
