The Ray Rice situation is still unfolding as the release of the video showing him sucker punching his then-fiance has led to quick and severe punishment from the NFL.

More from Baltimore Ravens

Rice has not only been released by the Ravens and stripped of employment but he has been suspended by the NFL so that he can’t find work. That’s a harsh punishment and one that should have come a while ago. But in addition to having professional ramifications from this, Rice is being shamed by those who watched him grow as a player.

Rutgers head coach Kyle Flood told ESPN New York that it’s a sad day for Rutgers as Rice has violated all that the team, the school and the players stand for in the program.

"“The video I saw this morning was difficult to watch as a husband and a father. There is nothing that can justify what I saw on that video. Family is family. But at Rutgers we hold ourselves to an extremely high standard. And we expect a lot of out of players. We expect a lot of our coaches and our staff members we have here in the Hale Center. And we expect a lot of our alumni and because of those expectations this is a sad day.”"

Flood wasn’t the head coach when Rice was at the program but he is the leader now and knows what the program stands for. Beating women is something no one stands for and it’s not a surprise that Rice is being disowned left and right.
