The man reportedly being discussed in trade talks is 2013 second round pick Arthur Brown.
Brown’s role with the Ravens became greatly diminished with the arrival of first round pick C.J. Mosley, who quickly established himself as a starting-quality player.
Despite Mosley’s arrival, Brown at one point sounded optimistic about his chances of still having a part to play on the Ravens’ defense:
"“C.J.’s a great player who’s come in here and taken on a role and is learning fast,” Brown said. “He has the talent, so there’s a good opportunity for him. The coaches have said that it’s a competition and we all have to be ready. We’re interchangeable. I’m sure there will be playing time for both of us.”"
Brown was a healthy scratch for the Ravens’ first game of the season. So much for him still having a role with the defense.
After a great career at Kansas State, Brown arrived in Baltimore with the unenviable task of trying to help replace the legendary Ray Lewis. A hernia operation put Brown behind the 8-ball and he wound up having an underwhelming debut season.
2014 was supposed to be Brown’s year of redemption after that frustrating rookie campaign but with Mosley taking his job that is probably not going to happen.
If Brown is going to realize his promise as a second round pick, he’ll likely have to do it for another team.
