When you’re a grounds crew member of a minor league baseball team who recently finished their season, what do you do? Things can get pretty boring, after all.

There is of course limited offseason downtime at most Major League stadiums considering they often serve as venues for other events such as concerts, etc. However local minor league stadiums aren’t nearly as active in the offseason, which is why the Toledo Mud Hens grounds crew decided to have some fun at the expense of the soon-to-be replaced grass.
The Mud Hens could have decided to create a football field given it’s that time of the year, but they went one better and decided to install not one but two mini-golf courses in the outfield. Even better? It’s all for a good cause.
"Don’t look now but there’s two, 18-hole mini-golf courses residing where the Mud Hens just completed their baseball season at Fifth Third Field in downtown Toledo. At left, Jake Tyler, the team’s sports turf manager, and golf course designer, lines up a putt on Tuesday afternoon. The golfing begins Sept. 25-28."
Proceeds from the mini-golf tournament will go to local Boys and Girls Clubs and the Susan G. Komen fund.
As for what the course looks like, it’s rather impressive. Granted, that’s to be expected considering the Toledo Mud Hens (Detroit Tigers Triple-A affiliate) employ a fantastic crew but the end result is certainly jaw dropping.

Currently going by the name ‘The Links at Fifth Third Field’, the crew will begin fixing/replacing the turf once the tournament concludes.
As can be seen above, the Mud Hens have a pretty good sense of humor as they previously wore Ghostbusters uniforms.
