According to Rotoworld, a veteran AFC scout said the Nittany Lion sophomore is the best quarterback in the country.
Hackenberg has lead the Nittany Lions to 2-0 start to the season, getting wins against Akron and University of Central Florida. On the season, he is 54 of 83 (65.1 percent) for 773 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions. It doesn’t exactly scream Heisman hopeful. But he doesn’t need to win the Heisman to be an elite NFL passer someday.
The news broke Tuesday that the Penn State Bowl ban and scholarship sanctions had been lifted stemming from to the Jerry Sandusky child abuse scandal. Whether it’s right or wrong, the Nittany Lions are back. Hackenberg isn’t eligible to declare for the NFL draft until 2016, so they’ve got a great quarterback on their hands. With Bowl eligibility, they can return to the spotlight. With their scholarships, they can begin to account for talented athletes.
"Hackenberg is “generating the most buzz with NFL scouts” amongst quarterbacks, reports NFL.com, who love his “combination of size, arm strength and competitiveness.” The 6-foot-4, 220-pounder completed 59 percent of his passes for 2,955 yards with a 20/10 TD-to-INT ratio as a true freshman last year, and he clearly progressed over the offseason."
