During the Green Bay Packers opening tilt against the Seattle Seahawks, quarterback Aaron Rodgers decided to avoid throwing at All-Pro defensive back Richard Sherman.

That of course didn’t go very well as Rodgers limited his field and the Seahawks ended up defeating the Packers with relative ease. Given that, the San Diego Chargers and quarterback Philip Rivers have no plans to avoid throwing at Richard Sherman come Sunday afternoon.

Rivers was quick to point out he’s fully understanding of why Aaron Rodgers and the Packers avoided throwing at the Seattle Seahawks defender, but that’s not part of his game plan.

“Well, I certainly understand why,” Philip Rivers said of Rodgers’ desire. “[Sherman] is a great corner. But at the same time, I think you have to be smart. It’s not one of the deals that you want to go after him by any means. But our approach is not going to be to completely eliminate [Sherman] and not throw over there any.”

At this point, it seems Richard Sherman is more effective barking off the field than on considering he’s not even being tested on the gridiron. If he can shut down his receiver and create a turnover or two, at that point you just need to tip your cap. But simply avoiding him, as Rodgers and the Packers did, seems like a recipe for disaster.

Granted, it doesn’t appear as if Philip Rivers and the San Diego Chargers are going to force-feed the ball Sherman’s way, though they’re not going to avoid such either.
