The Appalachian State Mountaineers went into the Big House in Michigan two weeks ago for their season opener, trying to recreate the magic of when they pulled off one of the more monumental upsets in college football history. Well, it didn’t quite work out that way, as they were blown out by the Wolverines this time around.

That’s just the fact of the matter. As nice as that historical victory was, most of the time when they go into stadiums on the road against someone from the power conferences, they’re going to get it handed to them.
But the good news is, for the school at least, they will get a nice payday out of it, and that is exactly what they’ll be getting from Georgia in 2017.
“Appalachian State will get a $1 million guarantee to play in Athens, according to a memorandum of understanding signed by the schools last month obtained via an open records request,” Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald reported. “The exact date is still to be determined.”
You can never argue with that. At least you end up walking away with something out of it all, especially since the chances are that you’re not going to get the win in the end.
