The news comes as a bit of a surprise because he didn’t record a catch or carry in the final 20 minutes, via OregonLive.com. If he was so ineffective during the game with the injury, then it’s warranted to wonder how much the injury will hamper him on Saturday. Wyoming isn’t a particularly daunting opponent, so while he expects to play, the Ducks’ coach Mark Helfrich isn’t in a rush to him back on the field. So perhaps he will play but have a limited role.
“I had a little problem with my shoulder, a stinger I guess,” Tyner said, via OregonLive.com. “I wasn’t feeling too well so they held me out a little bit. I’m good.”
If it’s a stinger, then that’s good news and explains why Tyner was left ineffective for the fourth quarter. It means that he should rebound quickly and with relative ease. On the other hand, Tyner injured his shoulder as a sophomore at Aloha High School when he suffered a slightly torn labrum If it’s related to that, then it might be an issue.
Tyner is averaging 12 carries and 48.5 rushing yards per game this season. He is one of three backs in Oregon’s rotation with Royce Freeman and junior Byron Marshall. If Tyner isn’t 100 perecent, expect the Ducks to cruise with Freeman, Marshall, who have been effective in Tyner’s absence.
