The Denver Nuggets and Kenneth Faried have been discussing a contract extension and with Faried’s continued improvement, he may be looking for a deal worth up to $13-14 million per season.

According to Sean Deveney of Sporting News, extending Faried with a monster contract could be a big risk.

"But for the Nuggets, such a deal would still be a risk. As one Western Conference assistant coach pointed out, “I guess you don’t know what kind of production he would give you over a long period of time. What happens if they get (Danilo) Gallinari back and healthy? Now they have (Arron) Afflalo back. Ty Lawson and JaVale McGee were not healthy last year. How much will having those guys affect his numbers?”Asking around among league sources, it is possible that the two sides will eventually table negotiations on an extension altogether — they have until October 31 to come to an agreement, and if they don’t reach one, Faried will be a restricted free agent next summer."

Faried’s long-term ability to score at a high-level is a question plus Deveney questioning whether or not his numbers will fall  with Gallinari returning and Afflalo, who was fantastic for the Orlando Magic last season, in the lineup.

Last season, Faried averaged 13.7 points, 8.6 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.9 blocks per game while shooting 54.5% from the free throw line. In his three-year career, the 22nd-overall pick of the first round of the 2011 NBA Draft has gone for 12.1 points, 8.6 rebounds, 1.0 assists , 1.0 blocks and 0.9 steals per game while shooting 55.4% from the floor and 64.0% from the charity stripe.
