The Sacramento Kings have made one thing clear to Rudy Gay, they want him back after the season.

Of course, to do so they’re going to need to break the bank and a lot of what happens in the next few months is likely to dictate what the Sacramento Kings do in the offseason. If the franchise is to struggle yet again, do they let him walk in free agency? If they do, it’s possible the Boston Celtics could be a suitor.
By no stretch would interest in Gay on behalf of the Boston Celtics be a sure thing, though Sean Deveney of Sporting News hints that Boston could attempt to keep Rajon Rondo this season and possibly try to build around him, using Rudy Gay as an example.
"So, if the Boston Celtics miss out on the top big guys, do they still keep Rondo and try surrounding him with the likes of Amir Johnson and Rudy Gay? You can build a mid-range playoff team out of second-tier pieces in the Eastern Conference. Even a pretty good playoff team, like Toronto."
Rudy Gay lost a lot of his luster down his period with the Toronto Raptors due to sub-par play, though he seemingly came back to life after he was acquired by the Sacramento Kings last season. Was that nothing more than an attempt to play well in a contract season? Or was it something more?
Nobody really knows at this point, though Gay will certainly have incentive to play well this season since Gay exercised his $19 million dollar option, making him an unrestricted free agent at season end.
