Danny Duffy hopes to start for Kansas City Royals Tuesday
By Ed Carroll
Kansas City Royals starter Danny Duffy will throw a light bullpen session on Sunday, and if all goes as expected, he will start Tuesday’s game against the Chicago White Sox. Duffy has been out with shoulder soreness since September 6, but an MRI revealed no structural damage.

Duffy also threw a bullpen session
, and was happy with the results. The 25-year old left-hander is having his best full season in the majors and has been a huge contributor to the success of the Royals this season, though Kansas City’s loss to the Boston Red Sox last night dropped them from a tie for the AL Central lead and into the second Wild Card spot. The Royals remain a half-game behind the Detroit Tigers for the division.
Duffy has been stellar this season, with a 2.42 ERA in 141.1 innings pitched, with 108 strikeouts in his 29 appearances, 23 of them as a starter. His Fielding Independent Pitching (FIP) is slightly worse at 3.68, suggesting Duffy has possibly been assisted by Kansas City’s defense, but it’s hard to blame him for that. An effective Duffy back in the rotation could be huge to the Royals getting into the playoffs for the first time since 1985, when Kansas City won the World Series.
