LSU started three true freshman on defense as Duke Riley and Deion Jones received their first starts at outside linebacker and defensive tackle Davon Godchaux started at defensive tackle as the Tigers completely shut down the opposition and limited then to total yards.
This is the first time since 1985 that LSU has had back-to-back shutouts after shutting out Sam Houston State last week.
LSU only led 10-0 at halftime but it felt so much more based on the dominance on defense. LSU has not allowed any points since Wisconsin scored on their first possession in the second half in Week 1, a span of 31 possessions that the Tigers have kept the opponent off the scoreboard.
The defense stole the show as they allowed 95 total yards and forced a fumble in the shutout but there were a few noteworthy performances on the other side of the ball.
Quarterback Anthony Jennings finished with 139 yards and an interception on 11-of-18 passing and added seven carries for 20 yards. Brandon Harris came in late and completed 1-od-2 passes for 14 yards and and had two carries for 11 yards.
Leonard Fournette led the team with 52 yards on 10 carries and a touchdown, Kenny Hilliard and Terrance Magee had 12 carries apiece for 50 and 43 yards, respectively. Hilliard also added a touchdown and that other freshman running back, Darrel Williams, scored two touchdowns.
After a minor car accident earlier in the week resulted in Travin Dural having double-digit stitches above his eye, the Tigers big-play receiver led the team with six receptions for 76 yards and was the only receiver to have more than two catches.
John Diarse had two receptions for 39 yards, Fournette had one for 20 yards, Trey Quinn had two for 12 yards and Hilliard had one three-yard catch.
The Tigers begin SEC play on Saturday when they welcome the 3-0 Mississippi State Bulldogs to Tiger Stadium for the 6:00 p.m. kickoff that can be seen on ESPN.
