The Cardinal used their stifling defense to clamp down on the Army triple option attack, and held them to just nine passing yards and 207 yards overall in their 35-0 win. The Cardinal defense extends their streak of allowing 30 points or fewer to 16 games, the longest active streak in FBS.
In three games this season, Stanford has only allowed 13 points. They also have not lost back-to-back games since 2009.
Kevin Hogan led the way for the Stanford offense, completing 20 of 28 passes for 216 yards and four touchdowns, without throwing an interception. The first three of those touchdown passes were to tight end Devin Cajuste, one in each of the first three quarters.
Barry Sanders Jr. gained 92 yards on the ground on just nine carries to lead the way for the Cardinal on the ground.
Army stayed within their game plan and the ball 56 times, but averaged just 3.5 yards per carry against the stout Stanford defense. This contributed heavily to their 4-14 conversion rate on third down. The Knights were stuck in third and long situations for much of the first three quarters.
Ty Montgomery led the Cardinal in receiving with eight catches for 86 yards. He also ran for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Stanford get a week off next week before heading to Seattle to take on the Washington Huskies on September 27th.
