The Eagles took this one thanks to its incredible success on the ground. Boston College rushed for 451 yards on 54 carries, with quarterback Tyler Murphy leading the way with a whopping 191 yards on 13 carries.
Murphy had the play of the game with a 66-yard touchdown run with 3:30 remaining that pushed the score to 37-24 .

On the other side, the Boston College defense stifled USC’s rushing game, holding the Trojans to just 20 yards on 29 carries. USC quarterback Cody Kessler did about all he could in defeat, throwing for 317 yards and four touchdowns on 31-41 passing.
This is obviously an extremely tough loss for USC. Not only is it embarrassing to lose a game they were such enormous favorites in, but they took a 10-0 lead and were winning for the majority of the first half. However, they let the Eagles hang around and Boston College took advantage.
The Trojans led 17-6 with 14:08 remaining in the second quarter and allowed 24 unanswered points until a Kessler touchdown pass to Nelson Agholor cut the deficit to 30-24 with 4:32 left in the game.
Murphy then answered with his long touchdown score. Kessler would throw his fourth touchdown pass with 1:18 remaining to make it 37-31, but the Eagles ran the clock out and held on.
The Trojans’ next chance to redeem themselves is Sept. 27 against Oregon State at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Riding high after this one, the Eagles will take on Maine at Alumni Stadium next Saturday.
