When Drew Stanton was told he would be given the starting quarterback duties for the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday morning, he was likely ecstatic.

More from Arizona Cardinals

Right now he’s probably wishing he was still on the sideline hold a clipboard as he was absolutely obliterated on a dead play early in the first quarter.

With MetLife Stadium rocking, the New York Giants played through a series of whistles. Apparently, Drew Stanton and his offensive line heard the play being called dead but not the Giants who rushed past the protection and unleashed a crushing blow upon the Arizona Cardinals backup quarterback.

Ouch! No wonder Carson Palmer had to miss the game with a sore shoulder. I’m pretty sure I now have a sore shoulder after watching that.

Thankfully Drew Stanton wasn’t hurt on the play (at least he didn’t show it) and was able to continue on, leading the Arizona Cardinals downfield where they took a 7-0 lead over the New York Giants.

Still, that’s the type of hit you see that can knock a player out for some time, if not the season. Stanton is very lucky he was able to get off the turf.
