The results of the first of 10 NASCAR Sprint Cup Chase for the Cup races was fitting as Brad Keselowski, who leads the Chase points and Jeff Gordon, second in the Chase points, finished one and two at the MyAFibStory.com 400 at Chicagoland Sunday.

More from NASCAR

Keselowksi led 62 laps in the 267-lap race and he finished on top after a late caution with ten laps to go. He passed Kyle Larson’s No. 42 Chevrolet after Larson’s car was smoking and he lost the steam that gave him a chance to compete with Keselowski. Then, with Keselowski far ahead, Gordon and Larson battled for second and Gordon was able to edge out Larson who fought back and forth.

Kevin Harvick in the No. 4 Chevrolet led the most laps in the race (79) but wasn’t able to stay out ahead after he fought for position with Larson and wasn’t able to get back ahead after the caution. Harvick finished at fifth behind Joey Logano.

This was Brad Keselowksi’s fifth win of the season gives him extreme momentum going into New Hampshire next weekend for the Sylvania 300 in a short track style race. Keselowski won NASCAR’s highest title in 2012, but now he looks like he’s even stronger heading into the rest of this chase.

“You’ve got to have a fast car and from there you’ve got to execute and we did a good job of that today,” Keselowski said on Sportscenter. “I don’t think we were the fastest car, we need to find a little more and progress as a group.”

Keselowksi leads the standings followed by Jeff Gordon, Joey Logano, Kevin Harvick and Dale Earnhardt Jr. to round out the top five going into next week’s event in New Hampshire.
