Although Teddy Bridgewater had a fine preseason, Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer decided to give Matt Cassel the starting gig.

More from Minnesota Vikings

It worked in Week 1 as Cassel and the Minnesota Vikings destroyed the St. Louis Rams, though considering they might be the worst team in the NFL, that’s not saying much.

Matched up against a much more formidable opponent in Week 2, the Vikings have struggled against the New England Patriots. That includes the aforementioned Matt Cassel who has already thrown two interceptions.

Needless to say, Cassel’s rope was already tight coming into the season and it might be stretched to capacity currently after this poor showing. At minimum, the Minnesota Vikings fan base has had enough as they’re currently chanting for Teddy Bridgewater to replace Cassel as the starting quarterback.

While the Vikings are somewhat financially committed to Matt Cassel, at this point you have to wonder how much longer he’ll be allowed to start. It’s doubtful Mike Zimmer will have this quick of a hook, so he may get another week to show that he can be the starting quarterback. That said, if he’s to struggle, the pressure to give Teddy Bridgewater the starting quarterback job may be too much and Zimmer may need to cave.

Regardless, it seems as if Bridgewater being given the nod at some point this season seems inevitable. Cassel’s not part of the Minnesota Vikings future and you can only sit and watch him struggle for so long.
